Bar-Yehuda Airfield, also known as Masada Airfield, is located at the foot of the Masada fortress and near the shores of the Dead Sea – the lowest point on Earth. This airfield is considered one of the most unique in Israel, not only because of its dramatic desert location between the cliffs and the sea, but also thanks to the wide range of aviation and tourism activities it supports.
Key Features of the Airfield
Strategic Location: Situated about 4 km south of Masada, at approximately 1,240 feet below sea level – making it one of the lowest airfields in the world.
Infrastructure: A paved runway of about 1,200 meters, suitable for light and medium aircraft takeoffs and landings.
Breathtaking Scenery: Approaches and departures surrounded by desert landscapes, with rare views of the Dead Sea, Masada, and the Moab mountains.
The Facilities and Visitor Services
In recent years, the airfield has undergone a complete renovation and adaptation for sport aviation and tourism. Today, the complex offers a modern and welcoming environment:
Large Paved Parking Areas – well-organized and easily accessible for visitors.
Landscaping and Environmental Development – lush lawns and greenery integrated into the desert surroundings.
Spacious Lawn for Parachute Landings – a wide, green area specifically designed for skydiving activity.
Air-Conditioned Passenger Terminal – includes a cafeteria, shaded areas, benches, and comfortable seating for guests.
Group and Tourist-Friendly Facilities – ideal for families, spectators, and organized groups alike.
Dead Sea Skydiving – GoJump Masada
Operating from Bar-Yehuda Airfield is GoJump Masada, Israel’s most unique skydiving center – and one of the most spectacular worldwide.
A Thrilling Experience: Jumps take place from a dedicated turbine aircraft at 15,000 feet, offering unmatched views of the Judean Desert, the Dead Sea, and Masada.
The World’s Lowest Skydive: Thanks to the airfield’s location below sea level, jumpers enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience found nowhere else.
Comfort for Families and Visitors: The facilities provide shaded seating, green spaces, and a relaxing atmosphere for those accompanying skydivers.
Tourism and Aviation Hub: Beyond skydiving, the airfield also hosts private flights, scenic flights, and special aviation events – making it a central attraction in the Judean Desert.
